Acclimatising your Hamster

" The New Home.... "

Most hamsters are at first quite confused and frightened by the move and the many new impressions. Usually it takes about a week for the hamster to get fully acclimatised. Here's how you can help:

1) Hamsters tolerate sun or bright light very poorly. The cage should not be placed in direct sunlight.

2) Limit yourself to changing just the food and water during this period.

3) Respect their resting times. Hamsters detest being disturbed during eating and sleeping. And they usually express their displeasure by biting!

4) Hand-tame your hamster. Offer a little treat (walnut, seed) between the thumb and forefinger.Don't let go when it grasps the treat, thus allowing it to regconize your scent. Repeatedly do this everyday until it does not bite you anymore when your fingers go near it.
